Cilantro and parsley are two very similar herbs in appearance but different in flavor and properties.
Cilantro is native to Southeast Asia and North Africa and has various health benefits. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antiseptic, and is rich in vitamins C and K. Besides, it is a source of minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, potassium and calcium.
According to Dr. Yoshiaki Omura, cilantro can help eliminate mercury from the body. The research carried out by Omura in 1995 showed that a Vietnamese soup rich in cilantro raised mercury levels in the urine of patients. A year after, he confirmed it clinically.
Parsley is of Mediterranean origin and has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, diuretic, antidiabetic, cytotoxic, immunomodulatory, and nephroprotective properties. Its main active components are myristicin and apigenin (flavonoids), Alpha-Pinene and Beta-pinene, apiol, vitamin C and carotenoids.
Due to this, parsley is widely used for the treatment of kidney diseases, kidney stones, urinary infections and high blood pressure.
Before adding or removing from your diet the herbs mentioned above, we recommend you to consult your nutritionist or doctor.
