A potato in the center of a dispute between the United States and Turkey: the Turkish society Beta Ziraat tried to get the exclusive right of use of the word "IDAHO" in Turkey
The American organization Idaho Potato Commission reacted immediately. The term IDAHO may only be used for products coming from the state of Idaho, the state number one in production of potatoes in the United States.
The Turkish Patent Institute has just rejected the request for Beta Ziraat. The decision was confirmed to the Governor of the state of Idaho with a letter of the Turkish ambassador in the United States.
Beta Ziraat has two months to appeal. But IDAHO Potato Commission does not want to take any chances, and has submitted a request for the use of "Famous Potatoes IDAHO" in Turkey.
