15 dead and hundreds ill in Germany and dozens of cases have occurred of E.coli in other countries, but all returning after a stay in Germany.

German health authorities have found the bacteria responsible on cucumbers imported from Spain. The EU has conducted tests and Spain has indicated that test results on cucumbers will not be known until Wednesday 1 June.

People suffering from the bacteria are now looking at the distribution chain.

Russia has closed its borders to German and Spanish vegetables. Vegetable exports from the Netherlands to Germany have virtually ceased, said Dutch Minister of Agriculture Henk Bleker.
