Fruit exports increased significantly (31% in quantity and 4% in value). Cherry is the flagship product this month, despite a 19% drop in cherry exports compared to the same period in 2016. Cherries account for almost half of total exports in value (46%), followed by grapes (11%), apricots (10%) and peaches (8%), whose export rose sharply (+382% in quantity, +540% in value).
The export of vegetables also increased by 16% in quantity and by 24% in value, but the tomato arrived only in 5th position of the most exported fresh product and pepper in 7th position.
The export of lemons stored in the cellars of Cappadocia increased by 42% in quantity but this product sold at significantly lower price than the previous season (-18%) due to the large quantities Remain unsold.
The reason for this increase in exports is related to the authorization of imports of certain Turkish fruits and vegetables from Russia due to the decision of the 2nd of June 2017 (pickles, cucumbers, table grapes, apples, pears and strawberries). Indeed, although Germany is the leading importing country due to better prices (33% of total exports in terms of value and 12% in quantity), Russia is making a comeback (30% of total exports in value terms and 33% of exports in quantity) and is in 2nd position with an increase of 420% in quantity and 250% in value of its exports. Iraq follows, far behind and Saudi Arabia is in 4th position.
