After 17 years, Korean melons make their debut in Vietnam

South Korea has been working on export approvals for various fruits since 2008.
After 17 years of effort, Korean melons have officially made their way to Vietnam. An agricultural cooperative in North Gyeongsang Province successfully completed the first shipment.
According to Korean media, the approval came after quarantine requirements were finalized between South Korea and Vietnam in April of last year.
South Korea has been working on export approvals for various fruits since 2008. Over time, eight categories of produce — including apples, pears, grapes, tomatoes, strawberries, persimmons, peppers, and melons — have gained access to the Vietnamese market. Negotiations for tangerines and peaches are still ongoing.
Officials see this as just the beginning. The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency aims to expand exports of Korean agricultural products to more countries by working on customized quarantine agreements. This effort is expected to open doors for more Korean produce to reach global markets.
