The number of direct Cherry Express services to China has nearly doubled compared to last season.
Chile’s 2025/26 cherry season in China officially began on 5 December with the arrival of the first Cherry Express vessel at Nansha Port in Guangzhou. The ship, MSC Lome V, carried around 370 refrigerated containers, equal to approximately 8,000 tonnes of fresh cherries shipped from San Antonio, Chile.
After customs inspection, the cherries were moved through a controlled cold chain to wholesale markets and cold storage facilities across China. Nansha Port’s port-adjacent cold storage allows unloading, inspection, storage, and distribution to take place entirely under temperature-controlled conditions.
The number of direct Cherry Express services to China has nearly doubled compared to last season, according to Frutas de Chile, Chile’s main fruit export association. Thanks to cold-chain logistics and modified-atmosphere technology, the cherries reached China in about 23 days while maintaining quality and freshness.
Port authorities prepared dedicated procedures for cherry arrivals, allowing the fruit to reach local wholesale markets within two hours of unloading.
