Authorities and fruit exporters focus on competitiveness, infrastructure and future market access.
Chile’s Minister of Agriculture met with the board of Frutas de Chile to outline priorities for the new government and strengthen public–private coordination in the fruit sector, according to the industry association.
During the meeting, the minister presented a roadmap focused on modernising the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), expanding market access and updating international agreements. Improving logistics, port and water infrastructure was also identified as essential to sustain production and exports.
Authorities acknowledged that fiscal constraints are affecting agricultural programmes, including those supporting irrigation, plant health, technical assistance and productivity development in fruit growing. Maintaining Chile’s phytosanitary status was described as a key responsibility requiring continued investment and coordination.
Agenda targets USD 10 billion in returns by 2028
Frutas de Chile also presented its Agenda Frutícola ProCrecimiento, a proposal developed before the elections and now shared with the new administration. The plan sets a goal for Chilean fruit production to generate returns exceeding USD 10 billion by 2028.
Key measures include strengthening phytosanitary systems and export certification, negotiating improved trade conditions in the United States, opening new markets such as India and African countries, accelerating seasonal worker visas, investing in water infrastructure and advancing port concession processes ahead of their 2030 expiry.
Industry representatives noted that the discussions covered competitiveness, logistics and export growth, expressing confidence that closer cooperation with the ministry will support the sector’s future development.
