Bigger crop, tighter margins for Peru’s ginger exporters

Even with solid demand across key markets, lower prices defined the 2025 season.
After a year of heavier shipments but softer prices, Peru’s fresh ginger exports ended 2025 with 53.8 million kilos shipped for USD 92.3 million. Volumes were 12% higher than in 2024, yet export income slipped 9% as prices came under pressure, reports Agrodata.
The average price fell to USD 1.72 per kilo, compared with USD 2.13 a year earlier. This drop in pricing offset the increase in volumes and kept total earnings below last season’s level.
Exports gathered pace from mid-year onward. Between July and November, shipments consistently exceeded 5.8 million kilos per month, peaking in November at 6.5 million kilos. December remained strong, with 5.45 million kilos exported.
The United States was again the main destination, taking 54% of all ginger exports, worth almost USD 50 million. The Netherlands followed with a 22% share, while Spain, Germany and Canada were the next largest markets. Smaller volumes went to a wide mix of destinations including the UK, Belgium, India, Russia, France and Italy.
