Apples: +7% increase for French production

French apple production is estimated at 1,410,100 tonnes, including 254,300 tonnes for the Gala variety and 319,000 tonnes for the Golden variety (Photo: lapomme.org).
For this 2022 season, French apple production is expected to increase by 7% compared to that of 2021 which had been low due to frosts. 2022 production returns to the volume of the average harvest from 2017 to 2021.
An Agreste report, from the Ministry of Agriculture, announces that, according to data as of July 1, 2022, French apple production is estimated at 1,410,100 tonnes. That is +7% compared to 2021 and a volume in the average of harvests from 2017 to 2021.
By variety: production of Gala is estimated at 254,300 tons, production of Golden is estimated at 319,000 tons, production of Granny Smith is estimated at 122,800 tons, production of various other varieties is estimated at 713,100 tons.
The report also specifies that the development of the vegetation is characterized by a clear precocity and high calibers. But the final volume of production will depend on the availability of water provided by rainfall or irrigation.
