The highest yields are recorded in Lima, Ica and Arequipa.
Peru’s potato production reached 6.9 million tonnes in 2025, harvested from 373,332 hectares, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). Average yields stood at 20.6 tonnes per hectare.
Production is heavily concentrated in the Andes, which account for about 90% of total output. The southern highlands represent nearly half of national production (48%), followed by the central highlands (29%) and the northern highlands (18%). Coastal areas contribute around 5%.
While most production comes from mountainous regions, the highest yields are recorded in Lima, Ica and Arequipa, where averages approach 30 tonnes per hectare. Under more advanced production systems, yields can reach up to 50 tonnes per hectare.
In the domestic market, Huánuco and Junín supply more than half (56.5%) of the potatoes traded at the Lima wholesale market, underlining their importance for urban food supply.
Seasonally, 77% of Peru’s annual potato harvest takes place in the first half of the year, shaping market availability and price trends.
