In Senegal, where a new campaign will begin, the authorities announced the very satisfactory results of the 2016 season (production and exports are up) and stressed that the horticultural sector is the most dynamic and the best performing agriculture.
The increase in production is maintained from one year to the next. Senegal has increased from 905 000 tonnes of Fruits & Vegetables in 2013 to 1 208 000 tonnes in 2016. For example, onion production totaled 245 000 tonnes in the 2013 season and 393 000 tonnes in the 2016 season.
Exports for the 2016 season brought in about 50 bn CFA francs (76.2 M EUR) in the country.
