Chile promoted its cherries
FJ
In China, the Chilean cherries are 75% of the imported cherries.
The "Cherries" Committee by ASOEX (Asociación de Exportadores de Frutas de Chile) organizes various promotions in Guangzhou. The festivities associated with the Chinese New Year, with gift giving within the family and circle of friends and co-workers, generate a strong demand for cherries.
In Guangzhou, in a shop in a supermarket chain, a "Hall of cherries from Chile" was opened. The pavilion simulates a cherry orchard and offers consumers a chance to sample and buy Chilean cherries. For every purchase, customers can take a hot air balloon ride. The balloon had a huge visual impact on the population and extensive media coverage at the regional and national.
In the 2011-2012 season (from 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2012), the volume of export of cherries rose by 23.2%, with more than 70,000 tons exported.
