Carrefour Group announces the opening of its first cash & carry store in India in New Delhi under the sign "Carrefour Wholesale Cash & Carry".
On a sales area of 5200 m2, this store located east of New Delhi in the district of Shahadra offer over 10,000 items for food and for catering professionals, civil service and small local businesses.
This opening is part of the group's strategy to be present on the major emerging markets offering development opportunities and significant growth prospects in the medium and long term.
Lars Olofsson, Executive General Manager of Carrefour, said: "The opening of this first shop represents the actual entry of Carrefour into the Indian market and will be followed shortly by the opening of other Cash & Carry stores. This first step is essential to enable the Carrefour team to fully understand the specificities of the Indian market and to then develop our presence in other formats. "
Under Indian law, the Cash & Carry is the only food distribution format that foreign companies can develop.
