Viet Nam wants to better respond to the demand for organic agricultural products which has increased considerably.
Organic farming is one of the new directions that Vietnamese agriculture must take to better respond to the general trend of domestic consumption and exports.
A conference held in Ha Noi examined the various measures to develop the production of organic agricultural products. A national system of standards for the production, certification and quality control of organic agricultural products is a priority. A comprehensive legal framework for organic products and appropriate policies (land, credit) could attract more investment and support the development of organic farming.
According to MARD, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, only 30 of the 63 provinces across the country have implemented a model of organic farming. Organic areas accounted for about 76 000 hectares in 2015 (3.6 times more than in 2010) according to data from the Institute of Organic Agriculture.
