Critical to the fruit and vegetable industry, global cold storage capacity has increased according to GCCA's 2020 report (Photo: gccaonline.com).
According to the latest report from GCCA (Global Cold Chain Alliance) which looked at data for 51 countries, global cold storage capacity increased by 16.7%.
GCCA (Global Cold Chain Alliance) released its report on Global Cold Storage Capacity 2020. Total cold storage capacity worldwide was 719 million cubic meters in 2020, 16.7% more than capacity declared in 2018.
North America and China accounted for the bulk of the reported capacity increase since 2018. The United States, with 156 million cubic meters, was the largest domestic market, followed by India with 150 million cubic meters and China with 131 million cubic meters.
Other information from the report: Canada, the United States, Brazil and the Netherlands all had an average warehouse size of over 100,000 cubic meters. Mexico, Brazil and China have the greatest unmet need for refrigerated warehouse space.
