High-value crops take biggest hit from typhoon Uwan

In the northern Philippines, the province of Nueva Vizcaya in Cagayan Valley, Luzon, has reported more than ₱3.13 billion (≈ USD 53.0 million) in losses after Super Typhoon Uwan devastated farms and critical infrastructure.
The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya said total damage from Super Typhoon Uwan has climbed to ₱3.13 billion (≈ USD 53.0 million). Governor Jose Gambito reported that agriculture suffered the largest losses at ₱2.01 billion (≈ USD 34.0 million), affecting thousands of farmers across the province. Damage to high-value crops reached ₱1.7 billion (≈ USD 28.8 million), making it the hardest-hit segment. Corn damage amounted to ₱15.25 million (≈ USD 258,000).
The province, known nationally as the “salad bowl” of Cagayan Valley and the citrus and ginger capital of the Philippines, also recorded damages of ₱27.51 million (≈ USD 466,000). Losses to farm equipment and agricultural facilities were placed at ₱36.37 million (≈ USD 616,000). Infrastructure damage reached ₱1.11 billion (≈ USD 18.8 million).
