Chestnuts production in the "Piemonte" region
The chestnuts production in the Piemonte region had dropped because of a tree disease called "CINIPIDE".
Eco-friendly treatments were applied with an insect, the "Tomirus", that stopped the disease.
This allowed the region to recover up to 80% of its chestnuts production, with a better quality of the product. This year's crop was more than satisfactory.
Mr Castellino took advantage of this situation and extended his product range. In addition to the production of fresh chestnuts, freeze chestnuts and chestnut flour, his company manufactures chestnut flakes used as corn flakes and also granulated chestnuts mainly used in bakery for making bread.
