The Russian authorities are not prepared to authorize the importation of tomatoes of Turkish origin in the near future.
According to Gazetem.ru, a Russian directive allowing imports of onions, cauliflowers, broccoli, salt and carnations from Turkey had been published. However, other products, including tomatoes, poultry, cucumbers, grapes, apples, pears and strawberries, were not accepted for importation.
Tomatoes are an important agricultural export product for Turkey. They account for 62% of Turkey's total exports of Turkish vegetables and Turkey's share of world exports of tomatoes is 4.5%.
Tomato is the most affected by Russia's embargo on Turkish products since 2016. Although the Turkish export of tomatoes increased from $ 106.5 million to $ 239.9 million, could not compensate for the loss of the Russian market. The other main countries buying tomatoes are Iraq, Belarus, Georgia and Saudi Arabia.
