EL PINAR consolidates its position as a plant nursery in the Mediterranean area
EL PINAR, producer of organic and conventional berries, reinforces its position as a plant nursery.
Although the Mediterranean strawberry season has started with some delay, due to the low temperatures recorded in January, varieties such as Victory, Primavera and Inspire stand out for their rusticity and adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Mediterranean area, presenting correct behavior this year.
Victory ranked number one in Greece for the second year, reaching 80% market share, with promising trials in southern Italy, Malta and Algeria. Inspire is a nice performance in Morocco and Spain, and it continues to grow in the most representative production areas in Italy. In addition, Primavera is a good material for the early segment in Spain, southern Italy and Morocco.
According to Mario Esteban, commercial director of EL PINAR, more than 175 million plants were sold with company's campaign (15% more than in 19/20). EL PINAR works with different breeding programs, among which Plant Sciences Inc. and Berry Genetics Inc., of which the company has been licensees for more than 20 years. One of the great benefits of the company's programs is that the varieties are selected locally, ensuring that each material is adapted to the production areas. "The adaptation to each specific production area, allows us to offer farmers materials that cover all their needs from both a productive and commercial point of view, regardless of the country or destination market," he added.
Commercially, Victory stands out for its easy postharvest life, without presenting rotting problems. Inspire is characterized by its flavor and shape, which are highly demanded in Premium export markets. Primavera, an early variety with a stable production until the end of the season, is suitable for various packaging from 1 kg to 2 kg.
EL PINAR is a family business that has been dedicated to the production of plants and fruits in the red fruit sector for over 40 years with production fields in Spain, Romania and Portugal. The company has a global network of distributing plants to farmers and supplying fruit to customers throughout Europe.
