A new export market is opening up for Vietnamese mangoes.
After 10 years of negotiations Vietnamese mangoes will be able to enter the United States market.
This American approval has just been announced in Hanoi by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. After various fresh Vietnamese fruits already exported to the United States such as lychee, longan, rambutan and dragon fruit, mango will be able to enter this market following the negotiations started in 2009.
According to Vietnamese professionals this approval will open opportunities for the sector. The United States imports about 400 000 tonnes of mangoes a year from Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Guatemala.
Vietnam produces about 800 000 tonnes of mangoes annually, only a part of which is exported. Vietnamese mangoes have been exported to 40 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, China and Thailand.
