Turkey was only able to supply the Chinese market with a very small amount of cherries last year, with exports starting in August 2017 at the end of the season. This year the volumes exported to China will be much larger.
According to EİB (Aegean Exporters' Association) there are now 9 producers and 6 packing sites that have been allowed to export cherries to China. These exports will be mainly air cargo through agreements with Turkish Airlines. The organization estimates that airfreight volume will exceed 10,000 tonnes.
The sector also plans to develop cherry and grape exports to Malaysia and Vietnam.
