The aim of the Profrut program is to ensure sustainable, eco-friendly raspberry production.
Peru’s National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) has launched new research trials focused on raspberry cultivation in Huaral, Lima. The goal is to improve fruit quality and productivity by adapting to local soil and climate conditions.
The initiative, carried out through the Donoso Agrarian Experimental Station and the Profrut project, aims to study the physical and agromorphological traits of raspberries. This will help define agricultural strategies and technologies to enhance the crop’s genetic potential.
Key areas of study include fertilisation stages, drip irrigation management, organic fertiliser use, seed production, and overall crop adaptation. The trials also cover propagation techniques and integrated farming practices.
INIA plans to use the findings to develop farming methods that support small and mid-size growers, raise productivity per hectare, and open access to high-value markets.
The broader aim of the Profrut program is to ensure sustainable, eco-friendly raspberry production. Research plots are already being installed to generate improved seeds and evaluate plant characteristics under local conditions.
