Chile secures a strong foothold in Europe’s expanding avocado trade

Europe’s avocado market continues to expand, driven by growing consumer demand and intense competition among global suppliers.
According to new evaluations from Chilean industry specialists, avocado consumption in Europe continues to rise, reinforcing the region’s status as one of the most important destinations for global suppliers. Younger consumers driving the trend are showing a strong preference for natural, nutrient-rich foods, helping maintain steady growth.
For Chile, Europe remains the top outlet, taking 57% of its avocado exports in the 2024/25 season — roughly 76,795 tonnes.
Rising competition raises the bar
European buyers now receive fruit from Latin America, Africa and parts of Europe, making it one of the most competitive markets worldwide. Exporters agree that sustained success depends on consistent quality rather than volume.
Chile’s quality advantage
Chilean suppliers have positioned their fruit through value differentiation, often achieving higher prices thanks to traits linked to the country’s Mediterranean growing conditions — including richer flavour, higher oil content and improved post-harvest life compared with tropical-origin supply.
In an increasingly crowded marketplace, quality remains the most effective tool for securing profitable windows and maintaining a strong presence.
