Ahold aims to open at least 50 supermarkets in Belgium.
The Dutch retailer Ahold is looking to accelerate its growth by tripling its online sales and opening at least 150 new stores within 5 years.
Although it has achieved a satisfactory business performance compared to rivals, the group's shares have been hit as investors are wary of low growth in the market. To convince investors Ahold has taken several measures to accelerate growth.
Ahold wants to triple its online sales to 1.5 billion
euros as well as open 150 new stores within 5 years, with at least 50 supermarkets in Belgium, where two tests were successful. It also aims to Increase the share of products sold under its own brand. The group says it has identified 350 million euros of cost savings and with cash of at least 2 billion euros, the group will continue to review acquisition opportunities in countries where it is already present.
