California has increased its production of blueberries by 52% in three years.
Demand for blueberries has exploded in the U.S. and has stimulated production.
Blueberry production has increased by 52% in 3 years, says the California Blueberry Commission, from 29 million pounds to 44 million pounds. This year, hail and cool weather will mean that the record from last year will not be exceeded, but there is still a very good harvest.
The demand for blueberries has increased in the United States and should continue to climb. The
fruit combines several assets to help increase consumption including being rich in antioxidants. It is also a fun fruit for children to any time. Blueberries are now second behind strawberries as an American favourite.
In the U.S. the main producers of blueberry are the states of Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregan, California and North Carolina. More than half of blueberry production in the world comes from the United States.
