Blueberry exports double in 4 years

Increase in the volume and value of Chilean exports following global demand for the fruit has become ever more popular.
Global demand for blueberries is steadily increasing.
Blueberry exports reached U.S. $400 million for the 2011-2012 season. More than double the amount (U.S. $160 million) recorded four years ago, said ASOEX, the exporters' association. Volume: 70,000 tons exported
last season, which represents an increase of 133% over the period 2007-2008.
10 years ago Chile there cultivated 1,000 acres of blueberries, but now have about 13,000. Chilean production will continue to increase by 50% and plantations have not reached their maximum capacity. They could reach 160,000 tons per year.
