Adoplatano arises to advance banana cultivation in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Association of Banana Producers (Adoplatano) was established on August 31, 2021, with the aim of contributing to the strengthening and expansion of the value chain of banana cultivation in the Dominican Republic.
Membership of the Association: President - Alex Cruz, vice president - Alexis Marte, secretary - Radhames Peña, treasurer - César Céspedes, members: Guarinex Gell, Edward Camilo, Luis Yangüela, Bernard Ureña and Rafael Bonilla.
Adoplatano was established with the help of the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) and the main Dominican banana producers who aim to develop the banana sector through support, development and promotion via direct technical assistance, training, innovation, services and information in favor of farmers.
Its main objective is to increase the production and productivity of the banana crop while respecting natural resources and the environment, improving the quality of the fruit to increase its competitiveness in the domestic and international markets.
The main producing areas are the central Cibao, the provinces of Espaillat, Santiago, La Vega, Hermanas Mirabal and San Francisco de Macorís; and in irrigated areas in the provinces of Bahoruco, Azua, Barahona, Baní, Montecristi and Valverde.
Banana sector of the Dominican Republic counts with around 50,000 producers, and is very important economically as well as socially. In 2020, the national production of bananas totaled 2,579,732,000 units, and the daily consumption is estimated at more than 7 million bananas.
