Heavy rains hit Costa Rica and disrupt pineapple production and export.
Costa Rica has been hit by heavy rains that will affect the entire agricultural sector, especially pineapple production.
According to the producers and exporters of pineapples (Canapep), the rains have affected crops and will cause a drop in production. Early estimates indicate losses of 2.5 million USD in fresh fruits and damage to infrastructure.
These problems have prevented the export of nearly 400,000 cases of pineapples.
Despite these problems, Canapep remains optimistic. Until last September, the pineapple industry increased exports by 5.2% compared to last year, reaching 530.6 million USD.
