Cambodia has seen a remarkable increase in its exports of fresh peppers. With a 3.5-fold increase in volumes compared to the previous year.
The Ministry of Agriculture has pointed out that the increase in exports of fresh peppers is remarkable. Cambodia in 2019 exported 55,513 tonnes of fresh chilli, compared to 15,494 tonnes in 2018, a 3.5-fold increase in volumes.
The increase is even more spectacular by comparing the volumes shipped in 2017 (1,750 tonnes), in 2016 (1,490 tonnes) and in 2015 (1,002 tonnes).
The main market for Cambodian fresh chilli is Thailand. In the first 5 months of this year, Cambodia has already shipped 30,852 tonnes of fresh peppers to Thailand.
The efforts to diversify products and markets are bearing fruit. The policy of opening up agriculture to private investment and the conquest of new markets, such as China in recent years or South Korea this year, have enabled exports to increase.
