Tunisian fruit exports recorded disappointing results, down 44.7% in volume and 15% in value (Photo: entreprises-magazine.com).
Over the period from 1 January to 4 September 2023, Tunisian fruit exports recorded disappointing results, in terms of both volume and value, compared with the same period in 2022.
According to the Tunisian media, over the period from 1 January to 4 September 2023, the country exported 26,396 tonnes of fruit, down 44.7% on the same period in 2022.
In value terms, these exports were 15% down on the same period in 2022. Export prices have risen by 29.9% for tomatoes, 3.0% for dates and 2.1% for citrus fruits, according to Onagri, the French National Agricultural Observatory.
This drop in performance is mainly due to the fall in export volumes. To Libya, the No. 1 market for Tunisian fruit, which had imported 38,285 tonnes over the same period in 2022 but imported just 19,385 tonnes over the same period in 2023. The 2nd main destination is Italy, which imported 4,817 tonnes of Tunisian fruit, including 4,314 tonnes of watermelons.
