The two countries recognize the equivalence of organic products
The ministry of American Agriculture announced the agreement with Japan on organic products. Total equivalence between the two countries, the certified products in the country could be sold in the other one, without obtaining a new certification.
This agreement with Japan is similar to that reached with Canada in 2009 and European Union in 2012.
Annual sales in Japan of American organic products amount to approximately $ 80 million. The ministry estimates that this agreement can allow to triple this amount and bring to more than $ 250 million per year during the next 10 years.
