CFF Cargo Cargo's decision to close 128 freight terminals will lead to thousands of additional trucks.
The Swiss Federal Railways (CFF) will close 128 freight stations.
CFF Cargo, the freight subsidiary, which has been unprofitable for several years, has reduced its network. Of the 500 stations for freight traffic, 128 will be closed. The closures affect all the country:
27 closures in Romands cantons, 8 in the Freiburg area, 4 in the region of Neuchâtel, 1 in the Geneva region and 8 in the canton of Vaud.
Swiss agriculture is likely to be hit as these closures will result in increased traffic by road with an increase of tens of thousands of trucks.
