Banana production will quadruple
FJ
Significant increase in the production of bananas in a few months.
Nicaragua currently produces 2 million boxes of bananas, one of the lowest levels in Central America, but production could pass to 8 million cartons with new plantations. This is the objective of Grupo Coen company which predicted 1,500 hectares of new plantations.
Additional areas and plants imported from Costa Rica will allow a larger and more profitable production. The company expects a return of 4000/5000 cartons per hectare while the current national yield is 2600 cartons per hectare. The company plans to make its exports on 1st February 2014.
