Decrease of kinnows' export in Pakistan with 50,000 tons lower than targeted.
The Pakistan Association of merchants and exporters of fruit and vegetables noted that exports of mandarins and Kinnow fell sharply.
The Association “All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetables Exporters, Importers and Merchants” deplore a drop of 24%. From November 2010 to February 2011, exports only totaled 210,000 tons, a figure lower than the 50,000 tons targeted.
For the association, decrease in exports is the result of reduced production due to bad weather. Production fell to 1.4 million tons this year (1.8 million tons last year) due to heavy rains and hail during the season.
The main markets for exports of Pakistani citrus are Russia (35%), Iran (25%) and Dubai (20%), followed by Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Indonesia.
