The demand from the Middle East countries for Brazilian fruit continues to grow, in 2019 their purchases increased by 34% in volume and 32% in value.
In 2019, Middle Eastern countries imported from Brazil 15,851 tonnes of apples, lemons, melons, watermelons, mangoes, grapes, peaches, nuts, oranges, guavas, among other products. The volume was 34% higher compared to 2018 and the value totaled $18.84 million or + 32%.
The United Arab Emirates led the way with $10.84 million and 8,558 tonnes, an increase of 29% in turnover and 37% in volume. In second place comes Saudi Arabia, which bought $2.43 million of Brazilian fruit last year, with a volume of 3,544 tonnes, an increase of 59% in turnover and 82% in volume. Lebanon comes in 3rd position with $2.06 million and 3,120 tonnes, a growth of 214% in turnover and 148% in volume.
Next come Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. Europe is the No. 1 destination for Brazilian fruit with around 85% of total exports. The United States and Canada follow.
