74.000 hectares of agricultural lands disappear every year in France

In France, every 10 years, it's not less than the area of a department as Seine et Marne, which is totally urbanised. In fact, 74000 hectars of agricultural lands are converted every year into shopping areas, road infrastructures or housing estates.

Experts believe the need of more agricultural surfaces will increase in the future and call for a better management of urban development, in order to avoid any wastings.

In order to fight the endless development of shopping areas , one could adapt the stricter German rules that oblige to build shopping centers on few levels with underground parking lots.

French government has anounced its will to cut by 2 its consumption of agricultural lands by 2020. A new commission named "agricultural lands consumption" departmental commission will be proposed. This commission would give its agreement every time a project will lead to a loss of agricultural lands.
