COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE forecasts 20% of banana plantations in organic farming by 2025. In Ghana 50% of banana plantations have no synthetic phytosanitary products and 50% in organic farming.
After a year of partnership with WWF France, COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE presents its commitments for a more sustainable production of bananas. With the implementation of concrete actions for a sustainable agriculture, whose main stake is the reduction of the use of phytosanitary products and synthetic fertilizers in banana plantations.
WWF France has accompanied COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE in the development of the roadmap that it presents today. The COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE is committed to increasing the proportion of organic farming in Africa by 5 to 20% by 2025 around its historic plantations and through the acquisition of new organic plantations potentially in Latin America.
The Group is also experimenting with innovative and sustainable production methods by developing new agro-ecological practices on its conventional surfaces.
The COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE sets up a project in Ghana called "4x sans". The goal is to phase out fungicides, nematicides, herbicides and insecticides. This project will be carried out on an area of 1,000 hectares, with an annual production of 50,000 tonnes of fruit. This conversion plan will eventually certify 50% of banana plantations in organic farming and 50% without synthetic phytosanitary products.
Founded in 1938 in Marseille (France), COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE is the first fruit producer in the A.C.P. (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific) with nearly 500,000 tons of fruit produced in its African plantations.
