Dramatic drop in Russian imports of fruits and vegetables
MLK
The expectations of the Turkish exporters , who had planned an increase in Russian imports because of the embargo, have been unsuccessful. In a press conference with the President of the Union of Exporters in Antalya , losses of the past two months would be $ 50-55 million.
Among the measures planned by the Ministry of Economy to support the export to Russia include trade in Turkish Lira-rubles and support to the most affected sectors, such as the fruit and vegetable sector.
450 companies in Antalya export their products in Russia and some of them are in great difficulty and could be brought to bankruptcy. The ruble being devalued by about 60-70% , Russian importing companies are struggling to pay their debts in dollars.
However, it seems that the situation will normalize in the coming months . According to the President , 2015 will be a critical year. We must not forget that Russia is the main market of fruits and vegetables from Turkey.
