The Miyazaki mango’s cultivation in Pakistan represents a breakthrough in high-value horticulture, opening new doors for exotic fruit production and potential export growth.
What began as a bold experiment in Karachi’s Malir district is now making headlines across the country: the world’s most expensive mango — the Miyazaki — has been successfully cultivated in Pakistan for the first time.
Originally from Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture, this exotic mango is famed for its deep red-to-purple skin, ultra-sweet flavor, creamy texture, and fiberless pulp. Often referred to as the “Egg of Sunshine” or “Dinosaur’s Egg,” the fruit fetches sky-high prices in international markets — anywhere from $800 to $900 per kilogram.
Behind this achievement is a dedicated farmer who imported a single Miyazaki sapling from Japan six years ago. With patient care and careful adaptation to Pakistan’s climate, the tree not only survived but flourished — producing high-quality fruit that rivals its Japanese counterpart.
The Miyazaki mango’s arrival in Pakistan represents a breakthrough in high-value horticulture, opening new doors for exotic fruit production and potential export growth. Local markets are already reporting astonishing prices for this rare variety, with some being sold for up to Rs 300,000 per kilogram (about $1,063), confirming its commercial promise.
