Colombia's banana exports fall by 7% in volume

Bananas continue to be a flagship product of Colombian agriculture, in terms of volumes produced and volumes exported.
According to Asbama (Asociación de Bananeros del Magdalena y La Guajira) in 2022 Colombia's banana exports totaled 1.8 million tons, or -7% compared to the previous year.
As regards the Caribbean region, an increase of +2% was observed, with 883,915 tonnes of bananas (46,038 containers) shipped abroad. The Caribbean region now accounts for 48% of all Colombian banana exports.
Exports from the Caribbean region were mainly destined for the United States (35% of the total). Next in the ranking are the United Kingdom (17%), Germany (12%) and the Netherlands (7%). Then France, Spain, Sweden, South Korea and Italy.
