This growth trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
Between January and December 2024, Peru's acai exports increased by 149.6% in volume, reaching 313.1 tons, according to Peruvian media. During this period, the Amazon fruit reached 17 countries, with Chile being the main destination, with 68% of shipments, followed by the United States with 13.6%. The rest was distributed among 15 other markets.
The acai, grown in regions such as Loreto, San Martin, Ucayali and Madre de Dios, is valued internationally for its fiber, protein and healthy fat content. Although only 10% of the fruit (its pulp) is consumed, its demand has grown steadily.
Acai cultivation has the potential to generate local development, but it faces challenges such as the lack of transportation infrastructure, which complicates its distribution due to its high perishability.
In the last four years, acai exports grew by an average of 213.7% annually, and this trend is expected to continue, strengthening Peru's position as a supplier of healthy products.
