Asian markets represent the best growth prospects for exports of grapes from Peru.
The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) that studies the markets believes that Asia offers the best prospects for grape export growth. For large Asian markets, Peru can compete with other major suppliers of grapes such as Australia and South Africa.
With demanding health standards, Asian markets are expected to substantially increase
their demands. China, with which Peru has trade agreements since 2010, has lowered taxes on table grapes from 13 to 6.5%. South Korea opened its market in May and is expected to increase rapidly in volume. Japan has just completed a health analysis for Peruvian grapes and citrus in view of opening its market.
