The promotion of healthy lifestyles throughout the European Union was launched 2 years ago. Yesterday an event at the European Commission reported on the results obtained and an award ceremony, aimed at recognizing good practices in the field of healthy and sustainable food systems, rewarded 5 laureates including the French association Les Jardins de la Méditerranée.
This distinction "Best Practice in Food Assistance / Fruits & Vegetables" was awarded to Antonio Bongiovanni, member of the Board of Directors of Les Jardins de la Méditerranée.
The workshop / worksite based in Avignon (France) recovers food at all levels of the industry, from production to the central purchasing. These products are then sorted, packaged and shipped throughout France through national food aid movements (Food Banks, French Red Cross, Relief Populaire, Restos du Coeur, ...).
The promotion of healthy lifestyles throughout the European Union was launched 2 years ago with the Tartu Appeal. Tartu is a city in Estonia that received 2017 European Sport Week and where Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Vytenis Andriukaitis, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety , and Phil Hogan, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, had made 15 commitments to promote healthy lifestyles through sport, food, innovation or research.
The results achieved are satisfactory and the commitment to promote healthy lifestyles has been reaffirmed. The next Commission will continue to work in this direction.
