In Malaysia, the value of pineapple exports increased by +71.72% and largely exceeded the target set for 2025 at 1 billion MYR (227 million USD)
According to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, the value of pineapple exports reached MYR 1.1 billion (USD 249.7 million) in 2021. This is an increase of +71.72% compared to MYR 642 million ( 145.7 million USD) in 2020.
This result generated by 2021 exports greatly exceeds the target set at MYR 1 billion (USD 227 million) for 2025. The Deputy Minister pointed out that the target for the next 2 or 3 years must therefore be reviewed.
The upward trend observed since 2016 is confirmed, with a growing demand for fresh pineapple and canned pineapple. Singapore is the largest importer of pineapple products with a 66% market share and China is a high potential export destination, especially for premium MD2 type fresh pineapple.
Malaysia produced about 525,097 tonnes of pineapples last year, with an area of 11,760 hectares of which 30% was for export cultivation and 70% for cultivation to satisfy the domestic market.
