The European Commission (EC) has approved the specific phytosanitary requirements for the import into the European Union (EU) of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) grown in Honduras, Mexico, and Thailand to prevent the entry of the pest Thrips palmi Karny into the country.
This was indicated in the Official Journal of the European Union (DOUE), in Regulation 2022/853, which also specifies that shipments must originate from a pest-free zone, from a place of production with complete physical protection, or from a place of production in which measures in relation to the production, handling and inspection of the fruits have been followed.
