Live from Fruit Attraction 2022: Onion that doesn't make you cry

This week, BASF's Vegetable Seeds business arrived at Fruit Attraction with the slogan 'Together we are the revolution', and presented Sunions®, a new crunchy, sweet-tasting onion that won't make you cry.

 

 

Francisco Solera, Country Sales Manager, stated that Vegetable Seeds is a global partner and that it develops the best vegetable solutions with a single objective: "Lead the change".

 

 

Previously, they did so by introducing their Galia Galkia® melon to the market, and with the Bazman F1 and Harmonium F1 watermelon varieties.

 

 

Today, Vegetable Seeds is leading a new revolution in the market with Sunions®, the first onion that does not make you cry and that "is the sweetest on the market" according to Francisco de la Cruz, Account Manager of Vegetable Seeds.

He has shown it in laboratory tests and in blind tastings. Sunions® does not keep the taste in the mouth after eating it.

 

 

Sunions® are available December through April. They are ideal for stir-fries, salads or as a base for all kinds of recipes, commented Crisanto Ampuero, Consumer & Customer Manager Vegetable Seeds at BASF.

 

 

Two years ago, BASF introduced the Sunup® melon, a variety similar to Cantaloup, but with a golden external colour. Sunup® has a clear cut indicator that allows producers and sellers to put on the market a melon with an excellent flavor and stable quality throughout the entire season.

 

 

Its other notable product is the Green Queen F1 artichoke, a variety with a full, tight heart, good color, tender and tasty leaves and a longer post-harvest life than the traditional one.

 

 

In addition, Vegetable Seeds offers long cucumber varieties, which stand out for their productivity, resistance and exceptional quality.

 

 

Finally, one of its most recent novelties is the Themes F1 lettuce, green with a dark and smooth leaf, with which Vegetable Seeds emphasizes the appearance of the product as an added value.

 

 

The Vegetable Seeds portfolio includes selected plant seeds and traits, biological and chemical crop protection, solutions for soil management, pest control and digital farming. In 2021, its division generated sales of €8.2 billion.
