More and more potato farmers leave the potato business
The potato harvest in Sweden this year will be significantly lower compared to last year’s figures, according to local media reports.
The main reason seems to be the reduction in the total area planted to potatoes. More and more potato farmers are experiencing losses and leave the potato business.
According to official estimates the 2009 potato harvest in Sweden might be lower by 35,000 - 40,000 tons compared to last year's total volume.
Forecasts indicate that there will be a good harvest in the regions of Skåne and Halland, while the decline will be mostly in the northern regions and central parts of Sweden.
