Brazilian producers have successfully completed a technical audit by Japanese authorities, marking an important step in advancing Hass avocado exports to Japan. The inspection took place in late April as part of the bilateral work plan to facilitate market access, according to local media.
The Japanese audit team visited production fields and consolidation centers in the state of São Paulo, Brazil’s leading region for avocado cultivation. The Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivative Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas) oversaw the process to ensure compliance with the established protocols.
During the evaluation, inspectors reviewed employee training, harvest controls, traceability systems, and post-harvest procedures. No non-conformities were identified, confirming that Brazilian operations meet the high quality and safety standards required by Japan.
The audit outcome highlights the maturity and professionalism of Brazil’s avocado production chain, reinforcing the country’s capability to serve demanding international markets.
Abrafrutas views Japan as a niche market with limited volumes but strong potential for value-added exports. The association believes that entry into this premium segment offers greater profitability and supports Brazil’s long-term goal of diversifying its fresh fruit export destinations.
