Peruvian asparagus exports hit $131 million in first half of 2025

Lower prices offset by higher volumes.
Peru’s fresh asparagus exports reached US$131 million and 36,000 tons in the first half of 2025, up 14% in value and 28% in volume compared with the same period in 2024. According to Peruvian media, the growth came from favorable weather, higher field productivity, and corrective agronomic practices such as recovery fertilization and adjusted harvest schedules.
The average export price, however, dropped 11% to US$3.65 per kilo, pressured by global oversupply and stronger competition. Industry analysts expect some price recovery in the coming months, as Spain’s shortened harvest season ended early, leaving more room for Peruvian shipments.
The United States remained the top destination, importing US$88 million and 27,000 tons, or 67% of total shipments. Other key buyers were Spain (US$12 million, 3,000 tons), the United Kingdom (US$12 million, 2,000 tons), and the Netherlands (US$9 million, 2,000 tons).
Looking ahead, 2025 is expected to deliver over 30% growth in export volumes, though producers remain cautious as high volumes and lower prices pressure profit margins. Industry leaders emphasize the need for stronger international demand and strategic marketing to secure long‑term recovery and competitiveness for Peruvian asparagus.
