After last year's authorization of Indian grapes, Canada opened its market to other fruits and vegetables from India such as bananas, mangoes, pomegranates and okra.
APEDA, the Indian organization for the development of exports of agricultural and processed products, has just announced Canada's decision. Shipments will have to meet certain requirements that will be controlled upon entry into Canada.
The Canadian market has promising potential for Indian products, particularly for mangoes. The fruits are already exported to the United States and Indian exporters will thus be able to easily access the neighboring Canadian market.
In 2016-17, agri-food exports from India to Canada amounted to USD 125.5 million, with grapes accounting for USD 2.2 million.
